During the first two stages of the green card process, International Student and Scholar Services represents the University. These first two stages are "owned" by the employer and as a result, ISSS staff act on the University's behalf.
The final phase of the process is considered to be "owned" by the foriegn national and is considered by the Immigration Service to be a personal application and the role of ISSS changes. It is important to note that since no one in ISSS is an immigration attorney, as a result they cannot cannot provide legal advice on this final phase. ISSS' role in the last stage of the permanent residency process is limited to providing basic information about the process. They cannot provide specific legal advice on this stage. Individuals who need more information and specific legal guidance are encouraged to discuss their situation with a qualified immigration practitioner.
