The Green Card Lottery

Each year, the U.S. government makes 55,000 green cards available to citizens from countries whose immigration rates to the U.S. are fairly low. The State Department (DOS) holds the lottery each year, typically in the Fall. Individuals enter the lottery by submitting their application on-line through the Departmetn of State website established for that purpose. There is no cost to enter the lottery. DOS randomly selects approximately 110,000 applicants from all qualified entries. Information about the Diversity Visa (greencard) Lottery program, including access to the on-line registration site is vailable through the U.S. Department of State.
